My First Time Doing NaNoWriMo | Blogmas Day 9

Hello bibliophiles! Today I’m going to be talking about my first attempt at National Novel Writing Month, Nano or NaNoWriMo for short, and walking you through my complete and utter failure. So without further ado, let’s get into it!

What is NaNoWriMo?

I wasn’t quite sure what it was until about two weeks before it started, so here’s the challenge in a nutshell:

Basically try to write 50,000 words of your novel or Work In Progress (WIP) in the month of November.

How did I do?

Let’s start with my excuses: November was a very hard, very busy month for me. I’ve lived a life of constant sickness and after a year or so of respite, it is back and better than ever. Yay. So I am proud of my progress, considering I did write most of this in school and while being sick. Overall it was a great experience and I missed writing.

Project 2am is a YA Contemporary about two former best friends and the events that follow an accidental text at 2am.

Project 2am Word count: 8,125 words

Obviously I didn’t get close, but rather only scratched the surface. I’m still working out kinks in the plot because it’s not as smooth as I need it to be. There are a number of changes I intend to make to this story in later drafts and I look forward to working on it in the future.

Don’t judge me for this next one. Drarry (the ship name for Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter) is very near and dear to my heart. I currently have a few chapters of my story posted on Archive of Our Own and it’s a small side project I like to work on, it’s also very low stress, which is nice.

Drarry Fanfiction: about 2,000 words

I’m sad that I failed Nanowrimo but I won’t stop writing my novel and I’m hopeful for the future.

Burning Questions:

Are you a writer? Did you participate in Nano this year? Tell me all about your WIP!
