23 Thoughts I Had While Reading Pride and Prejudice + Review

Hello again honeybees. Today is the day that I publish what will surely be my most controversial post on my blog, ever. I won’t say anymore and let you read the thoughts I had (copied and pasted from the notes app on my phone) during the two months it took me to read this book. Below the thoughts is a review as well where I go more in depth about my feelings.

Does include spoilers!

Thoughts

•Elizabeth is the best, though a bit simple minded

•the mother is infuriating

-reminds me of my grandma omg

•I like Darcy a lot

•not a fan of the dialogue where you never know who’s speaking

•all of the italics are annoying as hell and are unnecessary

•this is so boring omg

•Mr. Collins is so annoying and I don’t think his monologues are necessary at all.

– “you should take it into farther consideration that in spite of your manifold attractions, it is by no means certain that another offer of marriage may ever be made to you.” EXCUSE ME Mr. Collins but Lizzy is perfectly capable of finding someone else and you aren’t the cream of the crop

•Mr. Bennet is the best dad to Lizzy.

-“Your mother will never see you again if you do *not* marry Mr. Collins, and I will never see you again if you *do*.” Awwwww

•I don’t like Charlotte Lucas at all. Girl code

•Wickham isn’t a saint Lizzy

•”What are men to rocks and mountains?” Same Lizzy, same

•YOU TELL HER LIZZY! CATHERINE DE BOURGH HAS NOTHING ON YOU

•GODDAMMIT LIZZY WICKHAM ISNT A SAINT GET OVER IT

•if Lydia isn’t the most annoying little sister you’ve ever read of then I don’t want to read what you’re reading bc I hate her

•Am I done yet? 😫

•Darcy’s love for his sister makes me so happy

•You ran into Darcy at his house…how surprising.

•ughhhh I had 5 seconds of love for this book and it’s all gone. When will this end and LIZZY WHEN WILL YOU SHUT UP

•awww poor Lizzy, poor family. I knew Lydia was the worst

•skim, skim, skim

•Do I seriously have over 100 pages left of this dreadful book?

•They got together, how predictable

Review

I’ll keep this short and sweet: the book was boring as hell. Austen used way too many words to say the simplest things and it was all so anticlimactic. How does everyone love this book? The only redeeming quality is Darcy, who’s actual, physical presence is about 5% of the entire book. The rest is just the idea of him. How boring. Great quality of writing would have made up for it, but that was lacking as well.

I didn’t like any of the characters and even Lizzy got annoying towards the end. This book is way, way, way overhyped and I wish I hadn’t invested so much time in this. Because I did enjoy it for 5 seconds, I’m going easy on my rating.

Rating: 2/5 stars

Tell me how much you hate me in the comments. Do you totally and completely disagree? Was there something I missed? Are you like me, and wish you hadn’t read it? Tell me everything in the comments!

Bye for now honeybees.

Honestly I have an issue with most classics. I just can’t get into the writing. I somewhat attempted to read Pride and Prejudice a while ago and read like a page or two and just couldn’t do it. It was SO boring 😂 classics usually aren’t my cup of tea though I love The Great Gatsby, if you haven’t read that you should totally give it a shot!

I haven’t read P&P, but watching the six-episode BBC miniseries of it (which is basically word-for-word from the book) makes me feel like I haven’t missed out on much. I agree, though, the plot is so anti-climatic/predictable and it’s hard for me to care about most of the characters, but Georgiana is super sweet!

Have you watched the Youtube series, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries? It’s a vlog-style adaptation of P&P.

I haven’t but I’ll check that out! Yeah, it was just lacking in a lot of areas. I really wanted to love it. I watched the Keira Knightley movie and it was great though!
