Synopsis:

Perfect for fans of Jennifer Niven and Nicola Yoon, this heartbreaking and uplifting novel captures the ups and downs of teen love in the face of unimaginable grief and the rocky journey to healing, peace, and forgiveness.

When Aggi Frank and Max Granger finally admitted their feelings for each other last December, it felt like love was beautiful and endless . . . until it wasn’t.

A fatal car accident involving their older siblings throws their lives into sudden chaos. And with a restraining order now in place between the two bitter households, Aggi and Max’s love runs cold. Being together again seems like a distant fantasy, even though they share the same driveway.

Still, Plum Lake is a small town, and staying apart can’t last forever. Aggi and Max eventually reunite at a lake-house party and break the ice after a year of silence.

But just as they begin to rebuild their relationship, the unthinkable happens, leading them to confront each other and their families in the hope of mending the broken pieces.

Character Aesthetics and Sorting Them Into Hogwarts Houses!

While I haven’t finished the book yet, these are the houses I think the main characters are in based on what I’ve read. I’d love to hear where you’d sort these characters if you’ve read it!

Aggi Frank – Slytherin

I felt like Aggi is a Slytherin based on her drive and ambition. If you’ve read it then you know that lake scene, and while it seemed to point to Gryffindor with her bravery and courage, Rufener pointed out that she had set out and pointedly put herself in that position to do that thing, which screams Slytherin to me. Aggi is stubborn, sarcastic, and witty. I can just imagine her trying to cast a spell in the Slytherin common room so she can spy on Max.

Max Granger – Gryffindor

I struggled with this one for so long but as the temporary Sorting Hat, I’m calling him a GRYFFINDOR! While Hufflepuff was tempting because Max is just so adorable and huggable, his sheer stubbornness and opposition to clear cut rules determined his fate. He has nerve, courage, and the heart of a lion.

James Frank – Hufflepuff Ghost

This one was difficult because from where I stand, Mr. Frank is an awful person. However, he was a good person before the accident and I feel like his attention to his family and his kind heart would have landed him in Hufflepuff. Now he’s the ghost of a good person and I chose to represent that in his character aesthetics.

Mrs Frank – Ravenclaw Ghost

(I looked through the part of the book that I’ve read but couldn’t find her name.) Before the accident, Aggi’s mom was passionate about succeeding and getting an education, even despite having a family to provide for. She was the Wonder Woman of mothers and would have fit nicely among the stacks of books in the Ravenclaw common room. Now she’s a ghost, destined to roam the halls of the castle and think of the life that was.

Mr. and Mrs. Granger – Hufflepuff

If you couldn’t tell, I’m head over heels for the Grangers. I know this family means well and continue to stay connected even in the face of a great tragedy. They’re angry, yes, but they still care deeply about more than pride or reputation. These core family values place them in Hufflepuff!
