August 2019 Wrap Up! Or, Evidence That School Sucks

Hello again honeybees! Another month has come and gone and I have very little to show for it. Senior year started, consuming my life with homework and college applications. I really really miss Kindergarten okay?

I tried very hard to salvage my reading this month, but unfortunately I didn’t meet my goals. I’m not too upset about it because I set a good foundation (grade-wise) for the rest of the school year but I do wish I had read books that I enjoyed.

Alright, enough jibber jabber (I think I’ve turned into a ninety year old grandma after three weeks of senior year) let’s get into it!

Books Read

The Awakening by Kate Chopin, 3/5 stars

I had to read this for school and it was pretty boring, save for the last twenty or so pages.

Bloom by Beau Taplin, 4/5 stars

This is a poetry collection that focuses on relationships and personal growth. I seriously loved the self-love/personal poems but felt that the amount of love/break up poems was excessive. It was almost a 5 star read, but the amount of love poems paired with a bland end note made it miss the mark. I still recommend this collection to poetry lovers, despite my nitpicks.

Posts Published

My goal was to post seven times and yes, I did that! *squeals* *happy dance* This month I posted:

August TBR + Goals

ARC Review: Hello Girls by Emily Henry and Brittany Cavallaro

Down The TBR Hole #1

Waiting on Wednesday: Of Curses and Kisses by Sandhya Menon

Review: Lost Library by Kate Baray

The Spotify Book Tag

Review: Pan’s Labyrinth by Guillermo Del Toro and Cornelia Funke

Highlights

  • In the beginning of the month, I was contacted by the lovely people at CaseApp and was gifted two of their phone cases! Collaborating with them really helped me get out of my bookstagram slump, and they’re cases are amazing!
  • One of my favorite publishers contacted me to ask if I wanted a book to review and I am STILL SCREAMING! I’ve loved everything I’ve read from this publisher and the book in question sounds amazing so yeah, my book loving dreams are being made right now
I finally started my full blown fall theme on my Instagram and I’m living. It’s different from my last fall theme but I really love it and I’m seeing tons of growth in my pictures!

And that was my month in a bookish nutshell! I’m disappointed in the amount of books that I read, but I did make great gains in school and on all my bookish outlets so it’s justified.

How was your month? Did anything exciting happen? Read any new favorites? Tell me all about it in the comments!

Thanks for reading! For more bookish content, follow me on Goodreads, Instagram, and Twitter. See you in the next post. Love, Destiny

Your reading of The Awakening takes me back. I read it senior year myself for class and can’t really remember much, so that’s probably saying something. Yay to being contacted by one of your fav publishers! That’s always exciting. Wishing you a wonderful September and fall!
