September Wrap Up: New Reads, New Memories

Hello again honeybees! I’ve been super busy this month! I moved out of my family’s place and into an apartment for college, and by the time you’re reading this it’ll be the first day of my freshman year! Time flies ahh.

With moving and orientation and everything came very little time or motivation to read. I did my best and I ended up finishing a few books: some good and some bad.

Let’s get into these reads:

Books Read

Becoming by Michelle Obama

4.5 ★★★★

I loved this book, unsurprisingly. Everyone raved about this book for months and one day while I was scrolling through Libby, I saw it with no waitlist. What??? It’s been reserved until the sun falls from the sky, but I’m sure my library added more copies. It was a great look at a successful woman’s life, with some insight on politics without being very political. Hearing about Michelle Obama’s life, struggles, and work showed me how little I give her credit for all the amazing things she’s done. An icon, truly.

Vampires Never Get Old edited by Zoraida Cordova and Natalie C. Parker

2.5/5 ★★½

I had such high hopes for this one and it did not deliver. The beginning short stories were so good, so innovative. A breath of fresh air for me as I’m always reading paranormal lit and I’m so tired of the lack of diversity. If it’s diversity you want, it was definitely achieved in this anthology. However, quality of the writing wasn’t there for some stories and a 10 page story dragged for centuries. Sadly, this wasn’t it for me.

Other Happenings

  • I moved! I’m now coming to you from my apartment near campus. I actually really love the city. There’s a bunch of paths by where I live and community gardens where I can go sit with the bees and butterflies while I write letters back home and read (pictured above).
  • I started university! This is being pre-written during my orientation (it’s over Zoom lol) so I can’t speak much on how uni is but I’m sure I’ll let you know soon.
  • I got a job. It’s…not the greatest. I’ve only worked there two days and I’ve accidentally cut myself a ton, started a fire, and stabbed myself with a knife. I make bagels. Who knew this bagel business was so dangerous, am I right? This job seriously isn’t for me but money is money and I kinda really need that so now I’m here.
  • Door dash loves me. I should really stop ordering from door dash but when you’re sick and you don’t have reliable transportation, it’s a savior. I’m really going to try to stop spending so much money on takeout though.

And that’s all folks! I know I’ve been super spotty on here and I can’t guarantee that I’ll be any more active, but I truly appreciate you for sticking with me. I’m going to try to schedule some content before school gets too hectic so I hope you get to see it!

I’d love to hear about your month! How did it go? What did you read? Did you start any new adventures? Tell me everything!

Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed this post. Please consider following for more posts like this! You can also find me on Instagram, Twitter, and Goodreads, or buy me a cup of coffee on ko-fi. Thanks again for reading! Bye for now honeybees.
